How Bill Mullen Teaches Purdue Students to be Racist
As a Purdue Student I felt the need to speak out against my professor’s delinquent words of anti-Semitism.
My name is John and I’m a junior at Purdue studying English. So I’m usually not such a political person, but today I really felt the need to speak up. In class today one of my professors named Bill Mullen made some pretty despicable comments (that in all actuality have probably been brewing all semester) that I believe are profoundly anti-Semitic. I’m pretty sure this guy has always hated Jews, and tragically uses the plight of Palestinians to spread his hate. But only now did the real vitriol come pouring out. I believe I heard him say that, “…Jews are controlling Washington to bring out their agenda.”
It’s the oldest trick in the book. The oldest hatred known to man.
But let’s give a little background about this guy. I can’t say I ever really liked him. He had decently interesting assignments, but he just started regurgitating all of the same dogmatic stuff that has no basis. Once you realize that he thinks minorities can do no wrong, all of his opinions become totally predictable. He is clearly passionate about Palestine, but has a pointed hatred towards Jewish people, which actually makes him a poor agent for Palestinians.
It really disturbs me that Purdue would keep a guy like Bill Mullen on their staff, and that SJP continues to exist under his supervision.
It’s important to have a nuanced progressive approach, but when your good vs. evil argument turns into flat out bigotry, a line has been crossed. I have Jewish friends who were absolutely stunned, and threatened. In fact there was a moment when we all looked around the room wondering if our “P.C.” professor actually just said it.
I’ve confirmed that he did.
In light of this, I think it's time that Purdue requests Bill Mullen’s resignation. And because I care about the atmosphere on campus and the safe space that it provides, I won’t rest until Mullen is reprimanded.
